About IconMaster‚Ñ¢
Icon Master is a utility that lets you change the icon of your startup drive. The startup drive must be a SCSI hard drive for IconMaster to function.
To choose a new icon from the set of pre-defined icons, simply click on the up and down arrows next to the small icon at the top of the IconMaster window. The icon shown will be the new disk icon the next time you restart your Mac.
If you wish to edit one of the existing icons, click on the arrows next to the icon box until the icon you want to edit is displayed, then click on the button marked Edit.
-
IconMaster will display an enlarged image of the icon in the left center of the window. In the right center of the window will be displayed the icon's "mask" image. The mask determines how the icon will be displayed when it is selected or displayed
on a black or gray background.
Below the icon and mask images will be displayed examples of how the icon will look when selected or not selected, and on a white or gray background.
To edit an icon, click where the large image of the icon or mask is displayed. Editing the icon is like the using the "FatBits" window in MacPaint‚Ñ¢: when you click on a black pixel, it will
be replaced with a white one, and vice-versa.
-
Any changes made to the large icon images will be reflected in the icon images shown at the bottom of the window.
If you wish to have IconMaster calculate a new icon mask, click on the button marked "»" This will make a darkened copy of the current icon image in the mask window. You may also
change the icon's mask by drawing directly into the mask window.
The seven small buttons at the bottom of the window perform various transforms on the icon and mask.
The first four buttons "nudge" the icon up, down, left, or right, repectively. The next two "flip" the icon vertically or horizontally. Finally, the rightmost button rotates the icon clockwise.
-
If you make a mistake, choose "Undo" from the Edit menu. The last thing you changed will revert to its previous state.
If you want to start over, press the Edit button again, and the original icon image will be copied into the editing windows.
To save any changes you have made, press the Save button. The changed icon will replace the icon in the upper window.
To throw away any changes you've made. press the Cancel button.
Changes made to the icons will not take effect until your Mac is restarted.
